Southwest Regional Medical Center closed its doors

All employees have been paid, three weeks after a creditor received a judgment that garnished the hospital bank accounts based on a $850,000 debt which forced the abrupt closure of Southwest Regional Medical Center. The debt at issue was accrued by Brown County, long before the ownership of Southwest Healthcare of Brown County purchased the hospital. The transition began in. 2012, when the hospital was short of cash and at the brink of closing. At that time the current ownership lent money to keep it open and then acquired it the following year. This enabled the hospital to preserve 350 jobs over the last 18 months.
